Improving Attendance at Langlees Primary
We look at all kinds of different ways to support improved attendance. We will continue to be working with staff, families and children to identify and support all of the barriers to attendance. In order for our registers to be accurate there are lots of reasons codes (over 30) that we have to use, so sometimes staff will need to ask a few questions of you to make sure we are recording accurately.
Why are we focussing so much on Attendance?
Across Falkirk Council's Primary schools the average attendance was almost 94%
In Langlees Primary our attendance last year was 91%
Almost a third of our pupils had attendance of less than 90%
What this means is that, on average, our children are missing almost a day every fortnight of school
........ almost a month of school every year. (19 days)
It really isn't long in adding up.
If this continues through all of primary then our children are missing 136 days of school between p1-7.
Medication in School
A few parents have advised that they are unsure of the process if their child requires to take medication during the school day, this includes nurofen and calpol.
As part of Falkirk Council policies there is a medical form MED1 which needs to be completed by a parent / carer giving details of the medication to be taken, the dosage and time to be administered.
We have attached a link to the Falkirk Council webpage with information about supervised medication in school together with the link to the MED 1 form, there is also a link to a MED4 form however this is relevant to high schools only.
You would be able to ask at the school reception for a MED1 form if you require your child to have medication administered during the school day.
If you want to completed the online form and then e-mail to the school (langleesprimaryschool@falkirk.gov.uk) we can then print this out and ask you to sign the form when handing in the medication.
Recognising Attendance
We think about attendance really widely. We recognise that for some children and families it just isn't possible to attend school every day. We think about our attendance in terms of 'available attendance' . If you have a hospital appointment to attend, or something happens in your family that is out of your control we understand that you may not be available to attend that day.
