A need for additional support can arise for a range of reasons.  Examples of factors which may give rise to a need for additional support are

•  being bullied
•  being a young carer
•  having English as an additional language
•  being more able
•  being affected by ill health
•  having significant learning difficulties - including behaviour.
   

In some cases it may be impossible to identify a reason even though the pupil clearly needs additional support.  Where this is the case it is not necessary to try to find a reason. 

Additional support can include physical resources, additional planning or raised staff awareness.  In the case of a need for additional support, the Additional Support for Learning Co-ordinator should arrange a meeting of all those involved and those who may be involved.   The outcome of the meeting will be an agreed plan of support for the pupil.
